I am looking forward to having you in my class so we can learn and grow together. On the first week, we will go over class rules, expectations, and any questions you may have. Always keep an eye on this website as I will be posting the Google Slides, handouts, homework, extra activities here. Please do not hesitate to contact me whenever you need to. I am here for you! Hello,
In the first part of class today, you talked about the paragraphs you wrote for homework (great job!) and practiced creating sentences using adjectives and adverbs. You also completed Trellus's Career/Future Survey. After that, we discussed the word intelligence, learned some synonyms and near-synonyms of this word, and learned how to skim a text. We read the text "Many Ways to be Smart" and discussed two of the nine ways in detail. We also worked on the words you were unfamiliar with. We'll continue with the topic on Monday. For homework: (1) complete p. 12 of the white workbook; (2) read the text on p. 12 of the purple textbook again and write two paragraphs about your primary intelligence. Specify why you think a particular intelligence is your primary intelligence by giving examples. Write your thoughts in the document I've created for you. Be prepared to talk about your primary intelligence on Monday. Hello,
At the beginning of class, we did a short collaborative activity to practice what we learned about the different parts of speech. Then we concentrated on the difference between adjectives and adverbs. We also talked about adverb formation and practiced the five different rules for creating adverbs from adjectives. You also learned how to ask about people's aptitudes, discussed your aptitudes, and listened to a conversation about multiple intelligences. This is your homework: (1) complete pp. 6-9 of the white workbook, and (2) listen to the conversation (link in the attached document) and answer the three questions about it (also in the attached document). Please write complete sentences and give as many details as possible. Make sure you write two to three complete paragraphs. Have a great evening! Hello,
At the beginning of class today we discussed the "fake news" reports you wrote for homework. Thank you for the interesting ideas. In the next part of class, we practiced the eight parts of speech and learned some funny new words that we'll play with tomorrow. We also talked about some of the US Customary Units of length and practiced converting them to units in the Metric system. We also read and discussed a text containing some typical colloquial features. For homework, please (1) study the Parts of Speech 2 PDF, (2) read the text in the Small Talk - features PDF again, and (3) identify examples in the text of each one of the four colloquial features we discussed. Have a great evening! We also read and discussed a text containing some typical small-talk/colloquial features. Hello,
We began class by discussing some of the errors in your homework assignments and trying to understand the reasons behind the corrections. We drew charts of some of the sentences containing past simple+past continuous and practiced time clauses with when/while/as. Next, you got into groups and completed a collaborative writing activity. I enjoyed being part of your creative process. Great imagination, vocabulary usage, and grammar-rule application! Also, thank you for role-playing your writing assignments. It was so much fun watching. We also had a guest speaker in the last part of class: Ms. Tooba from our Health Services department. She talked to you about the importance of advocating for yourselves at the doctor's office. Hope you enjoyed it. For homework, please choose one of the topics you didn't write about today and create another report. Have fun writing it and use your imagination. I have created individual documents for each one of in Google Classroom. Have a great evening! Hello,
In the first part of class, we played a super fun game to practice the Simple Past tense. After the break, we reviewed another past tense - the Past Continuous. We talked about its formation, usage, and how it differs from the Simple Past tense. You can find a PDF of my presentation slides in Google Classroom. For homework, please complete pp. 2-3 of your white workbook and the document I've attached here. Have a great weekend! For homework, please write a paragraph about a time in your life when you felt something or someone was too good to be true. Use the document in Google Classroom to write in. You'll tell us your stories tomorrow.
